Colour zings through the pages and pierces through the eyes of readers in this explosive collection of Mauren Brodbeck’s diverse artworks. Brodbeck, an artist from Geneva, defies categorization, and works within and between genres of photography, collage, graphic design, and installation. Her mutilayered and polysemic images exist outside of time and space, while remaining grounded in the familiar urban landscape of a warehouse, a house, a parking lot.
Brodbeck most recently showed in a series of solo exhibitions entitled “Mood Motel”. The show opened at the Andata Ritorno Laboratory for Contemporary Art in Geneva in March of 2016, and in her characteristically interdisciplinary style, explores the experiences of a city’s faded glory and the passage of time.
The energetic colours which she applies to our world both obscures and monumentalizes the otherwise banal elements of daily life. Her work also presents a dialogue between presence and absence, in the transformation of human figures into quasi-silhouettes and dimensional cut-outs. Œuvres is a colourful, exuberant journey through ten years of Brodbeck’s career, and allows a spiritually-infused discovery of art which flies beyond all boundaries.
